Jorge Lorenzo powers to victory in Italy
Italian rider Andrea Ianone started on pole for his home grand prix with Lorenzo and Dovizioso alongside him on the front row while Rossi was in 8th and Marquez in 13th. At the start Iannone nearly jumped the start but he anticipated the lights perfectly for clean getaway with Lorenzo and Dovizioso following closely but it was the current world champion Marc Maruez made a rocket start to get into 6th postion from 13th while Valentino Rossi had a bad start and got stuck in 11th.
Dovizoso on the Ducati took the lead from his team mate into C1 but the determined Lorenzo on the Yamaha grabbed it within a few corners and established his dominance from therein.
By Lap 2 Marquez rose to third battling with the ducati riders Iannone and Dovizioso and ultimately caught up with Lorenzo´s tail on Lap 3 but the Yamaha rider hammered few extra seconds and got away from pursuit of Honda´s Marquez. Suzuki´s top rider Aleix Espargaro was hit by Danilo Petrucci into C1 and had to retire from the race.
As Lorenzo had a cushion over the the pursuing pack, it was all a grand battle for 2nd between Marquez, Dovizioso and Iannone while Rossi was rising slowly upwards and was behind Smith in 8th who earlier had great start.
By Lap 12 Rossi gained lots of time and caught up with battle for 2nd behind Pedrosa who upped his antics to get ahead of Dovizioso who looked like struggling with some issue with his bike. Rossi took Dovizioso in the following lap with a fantastic move into the esses while Dovizioso immediately slowed down and retired into the pits.
An intense battle raged for 2nd between Marquez and Iannone with Pedrosa and Rossi closely behind while Lorenzo 6 seconds ahead in the lead. All of Marquez´s efforts were spoiled by a super determined home boy Iannone as the battle for supremacy continued.
With 6 Laps to go Marquez made a move on Iannone which was immediately cut short by the Italian, Marquez tried a different line into the esses and while coming out of the curve lost his front end and crashed out of the race in a dramatic fashion.
Immediately Rossi who was behind Pedrosa made a superb move to get into third but was far off from challenging Iannone in second.
Lorenzo took the chequered flag 5.5secs ahead of Iannone and Rossi came in a brilliant third futher 1 sec behind. Pedrosa finished fourth ahead of Bradley Smith while Pol Espargaro, Maverick Vinales, Danilo Petrucci and Yonny Hernandez completing the top 10.
Huge yellow sea of crowd turned out for the podium ceremony supporting their local hero Valentino Rossi.
The next round of the championship will be held in Catalunya, Spain on June 14, 2015.
Lorenzo closed the gap to just 6points on his team mate Valentino Rossi leading the table on 118points while Marquez is down at 5th with 55 points deficit.
